Simple Iced Matcha Latte

Who doesn’t love an iced matcha latte? A delicious go-to that is good for you and will bring you sustainable energy. The caffeine in matcha will gradually enter your system giving you focus and energy and then gradually leave your system so you don’t get the abrupt crash in the afternoon like other caffeinated beverages can cause!

Making your matcha latte at home can also save you a lot of money!

Try this simple recipe!

What you will need

1 tsp of ceremonial grade matcha powder

1/2-1 tsp of raw organic brown sugar

2-3 oz filtered hot water boiled @ 175 degree F

Matcha whisk OR Electronic frother OR Any small whisk you have available

1 cup of Ice

1 tsp vanilla extract

1.5 cup of oat milk (or whatever dairy/dairy alternative you have on hand)

How to a make matcha latte

  1. Combine 1 tsp of matcha powder and 1 tsp of brown sugar

We used our organic ceremonial matcha tea but you can use whatever matcha you have on hand! Preferably a ceremonial grade matcha for the best flavour.

Pro tip: for best results, sift your matcha through a fine strainer especially if it’s been in the fridge or it has been a week or 2 since you’ve opened it up.

For the sugar level, this will depend on how sweet you want your matcha latte, we used 1 tsp of brown sugar but feel free to use more or less depending on your taste.

2. Add 2-3 oz of filtered hot water boiled @ 175 degrees F to the matcha powder/brown sugar mix

Pro tip: avoid brewing green tea with boiling water as it will burn the tea and make it taste more bitter, if you don’t have a temperature controlled water boiler then just bring the water to a boil and let it sit for 1-2 minutes before making your matcha.

The amount of water you choose to use will depend on how concentrated you would like the matcha to be – less water gives a fuller body matcha and more water gives a light airy matcha. We used 2 oz of water but feel free to play around with the ratios until you find your sweet spot.

3. Whisk your matcha, brown sugar, and water until smooth and frothy. This takes about 30 seconds to 1 minute depending on your method.

You can use a matcha whisk, an electronic frother, or any baking whisk you have laying around in your kitchen. Don’t need to have fancy tools to enjoy a nice matcha latte!

Pro tip: using metal or aluminum tools can change the taste of the matcha slightly, a bamboo whisk will give optimal matcha flavour. But for convenience and time we used an electronic frother.

4. Fill your glass up with ice

5. Pour your matcha mix over the ice

6. Add 1 tsp of vanilla extract

7. Pour 1.5 cups of oat milk over the ice

8. Stir to combine

9. Grab your favourite re-usable straw & Enjoy your Matcha Latte 🙂
